Building Again: Reinventing Yourself After 60

Part of the Still & Moving series with Janet M. Taylor and Coni J. Mackey — real conversations about letting go, starting over, and living with intention after 60.

Episode 5 of 5 | Still & Moving

At 65, Coni Mackey felt invisible.

She had gray hair. She was navigating major life changes. And the world around her — including her own grandson — seemed to reflect back the message that she was no longer relevant. Her wisdom didn’t count. Her next chapter was supposed to be winding down, not starting up.

She didn’t buy it. But for a while, it was hard to ignore.

In this final episode of the Still & Moving series, Coni and Janet M. Taylor talk honestly about what it means to build something new after 60. Not retirement. Not wrapping things up. Building. Creating a life that reflects who you actually are right now, not who you were twenty years ago or who society expects you to become.

“You do not have to listen to what society says you should be at 65 and above,” Coni says. “You get to define who you’re going to be in your next chapter. You get to do it.”

This episode covers the inner work that made that possible — getting still enough to hear herself, removing the noise of other people’s expectations, and returning to her own imagination. It also covers the practical side: building new businesses, creating systems that serve your current life, surrounding yourself with women who are doing the same.

The series ends where it always pointed: toward trust. Trust in what you already know. Trust in what you’ve already lived through. Trust that who you are right now is enough to build something worth building.

You are worth knowing that person. That’s not a motivational line. It’s just true.
